We offer our VR simulations to OHS students free of charge

We let occupational health and safety students try the VR simulations we develop at no cost: they learn to recognise hazards in a virtual setting, and we see where our simulations fall short.

The hazard in the photo, the hazard on site

In occupational health and safety training, students usually see an exposed conductor, a blocked emergency exit or an oil spill on the floor in a photograph, on its own. On site, the same hazard sits among noise, movement and the job at hand; spotting it is a separate skill. Building that skill in a genuinely hazardous environment is both difficult and risky.

What we offer

Since the 2024–2025 academic year, we have let students in occupational health and safety programmes try the VR simulations we develop, free of charge. Students enter a virtual work area and do what they would do in a real site inspection:

  • choose the right personal protective equipment,
  • follow the marked pedestrian route,
  • try to find the hazards and non-conformities in the area: an exposed conductor, a blocked emergency exit, a missing warning sign, an oil spill on the floor.

Making a mistake in a virtual environment costs nothing.

A test bed for us too

These sessions benefit us as well as the students. As future OHS professionals use our simulations, we see directly where they struggle, what they miss and which step isn’t clear. We use these observations to fix the gaps in our simulations and make the next version better.

Why free

These students will soon be responsible for safety in workplaces. Meeting immersive training at the start of their careers is the most natural way for this approach to spread into the field. That is why we run this work as a social responsibility initiative.
